Think You're Safe Since You Don't Shop on the Web?
My security wise friends always chortle when I buy something on the web. "You shouldn't give out your CC# to any web site". We'll it just doesn't matter. Just having a credit card puts you at risk:

The Summer Without TV
I cancelled my DirecTV with TiVo service.
Well.. Actually I placed it in suspended mode.
If you were wondering why it's a combination of
In case you were wondering, DirecTV did not offer me "a deal". They used to offer a "Basic Choice", then a "Total Choice Limited", etc. but now they won't at all. They require a restart date when you go into "suspended mode". I chose to go the maximum length - 9 months. They do not charge a fee for being in suspended mode (like Dish Network reportedly does).
If they would offer me my local channels for $10 per month I would snap it up -- but they won't. Heck I would take a 30 channel package for $20. But nope. They won't offer that either. It's 135 channels or NOTHING.
My wife is devastated. She wanted to TiVo the new season of HBO's Six Feet Under. I told her we could buy the DVD's for Christmas and save $100..
Stay tuned.. we'll see if I can stand it. This is the first time I haven't had cable channels since high school.
I'll be checking out Dish Network this Fall -- especially if my neutered TiVo can be replaced with modern technology
Well.. Actually I placed it in suspended mode.
If you were wondering why it's a combination of
- No time for TV in the Summer (can't justify $63/month)
- My TiVo has 100 hours of content built up which will take all Summer to watch (entire series of HBO's Entourage for example)
- Absolutely nothing is on to watch until late September.
